Estuaries support a wide variety of animals and plants. Estuaries are one of the most plentiful ecosystems in the world and has a great biodiversity. To give an example of how the ecosystem flows, here's a sample food chain with al 5 trophic levels:
The marsh plants get energy from the sun by photosynthesis, which are consumed by protozoa (a unicellular organism), making it the primary consumer, which is then consumed by amphipods (small aquatic crustaceans), making them the secondary consumers, which is consumed by the stickleback fish, making it the tertiary consumer, and finally the fish is eaten by the great blue heron, making it the quaternary consumer.
